Love, Actually. From So Tender Is Humanity

Beyond Perfect: A Love Note from Behind the Lens

Weddings are beautiful. They’re also wild — messy, unpredictable, even downright chaotic. As photographers and cofounders of So Tender is Humanity, a wedding photography studio, Alex and Anastasiia have witnessed it all: rain falling on outdoor vows, family tensions bubbling over, vendors who never arrive. Yet through every hiccup, they return to one simple truth — couples aren’t chasing perfection. They just want to feel joy.

When we say our approach is human, not transactional, we mean it.

“When we say our approach is human, not transactional, we mean it,” Anastasiia says. She explains that weddings can be overwhelming and rarely go exactly as planned, but what matters most is how couples feel in the moment. Her goal is always to bring compassion and kindness into the room so couples can laugh, breathe and genuinely enjoy their day.

On Letting Go of Perfect

If there’s one word Anastasiia would love to erase from wedding vocabulary, it’s perfect. After 13 years of marriage herself, she knows that perfection isn’t just impossible — it’s boring.

“Some of our favorite weddings are the ones where couples embraced the things that didn’t go according to plan and had even more fun because of it,” she says. “The same goes for photos—our favorite images are always the messy, candid, ‘lucky accidents’ rather than the perfectly posed ones.”

Her advice for couples is simple: plan what you need to ahead of time, but once the day arrives, let it all go. Cry the happy tears. Eat the cake. Do the awkward dance moves. Trust your vendors, delegate the stress, then just be together.

What Love Really Looks Like

For Anastasiia, it’s the emotional moments that stay etched in her heart.

She tears up at nearly every wedding, but one memory stands apart.

At a recent ceremony, the groom’s young son stood beside him as the bride began her vows. Then, in a tender twist, she turned to the boy and made promises to him too — committing to love and support him as part of their new family.

The moment moved everyone in the room to tears. Anastasiia says it reminded her that weddings aren’t about flowers or napkins, but about love, bravery and choosing each other — and sometimes choosing a whole family. “The bride, the groom, and their son were all in tears — fully present, deeply grateful, and aware of the new family they were forming. It was the most beautiful thing.”

A Toast to Joy

Not every memorable moment has to be unplanned. For Alex and Anastasiia, one favorite tradition is the champagne spray at the end of the night. It’s playful, celebratory and just the right amount of messy. “Couples often tell us it was way more fun than they expected,” Anastasiia says. “And really, when else do you get a

chance to pop a bottle and spray champagne with your favorite person? It’s always a hit.”

The Heart of It

At its core, So Tender is Humanity isn’t about staging perfect images or chasing an aesthetic. It’s about making space for couples to be human — messy, emotional, elated, imperfect, real. At the end of the day, it’s not the napkins

that last. It’s the memories, the laughter and the love you carry forward.
